There are many models of health and wellness. Some models are very simple: body, mind and spirit for example. Others are more complex. But each and every model recognizes the spiritual dimension as a unique and indispensable component of well-being.

Spiritual health is not just for the "religious", but has application and importance for everyone. Like other dimensions of health, the spiritual dimension needs to be developed, or, to use a more common term, it needs to be "exercised". Just as one exercises to develop ones physical capacities, so one must practice spiritual exercises in order to enhance ones spiritual capacities. Consistent practice of activities of spiritual health can lead to a deeper understanding of one's purpose in life, enhance one's personal relationships and provide a clearer grasp of one's own values.
