Low fitness, or inactivity, used to be considered only moderately important as a risk factor for early death. Recently, the Surgeon General's report cited numerous studies indicating that low fitness may be a more important risk factor than once thought. When compared to other traditional risk factors for premature death, Low Fitness was the strongest predictor of all cause mortality in both men and women.
