CUESTA COLLEGE AWARDED $250,000 GRANT BY CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE
Cuesta College was awarded a $250,000 grant by the California Community
College Chancellor’s Office as part of Part of Senate Bill 70 –
providing $20 million to the California Community Colleges, beginning
January 1, 2006; for programs that will strengthen Career and Technical
Education, grow program capacity and infrastructure and improve the link
between secondary schools and selected economic and workforce
development programs in community colleges.
This grant will fund the Career Technical Educational program in
Automotive Technologies; a program Cuesta College runs, in conjunction
with The Santa Lucia Regional Occupational Program (including four
participating High Schools), San Luis Obispo County Office of Education,
County Alternative Schools, The Automotive Services Council (Local
Chapter 17), and the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition.
“The need for trained technicians is at a critical point locally and
statewide” said Sabrina Robertson, project director. “And the
opportunities for well paying jobs in this field are endless.”
The grant will be distributed to the Career Technical Educational
program in Automotive Technologies over a two year period and will help
improve the curriculum to meet Career Technical Educational standards
and National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF)
standards, update technology in the classroom and lab auto shops, create
more access to automotive career pathways programs by students in
alternative education programs and living in rural areas of the county,
further instructor knowledge and expertise and course content in
emerging alternative fuel technologies, and improve student outreach.
