CUESTA COLLEGE LITTLE BIG BAND ROCKS THE HOUSE
ON OCTOBER 3
The best of
Central Coast big band jazz is on its way for local music fans, when the
Cuesta College Little Big Band kicks off a performance at 7:30 p.m.,
Monday, October 3, in Cuesta’s San Luis Obispo Campus Conference Center.
The concert highlights the arrangements and compositions of Don Schamber
and features local jazz vocalist Eric Kumalac.
The Little
Big Band Concert is the first Cuesta performance to be directed by Ron
McCarley, Cuesta College Director of Jazz Studies, who took over for
James Miley earlier this year. A Santa Barbara native, McCarley is a
professional jazz musician who has taught at Westmont College and Santa
Barbara City College. He plays all woodwinds
and is trained in a variety of styles.
Music
numbers for the October 3 performance include “Señor Frog,” “Killer
Joe,” “Rundown,” “My Funny Valentine,” (featuring Kumalac on vocals),
“Lullaby of Leaves,” “Speak No Evil,” and others.
The Cuesta
College Little Big Band is composed of Kent Anderson, Andrew Derossett,
Robert Harway, David Shanks, Robert Sennett and Lyle Stubson of San Luis
Obispo; James Kerber of Paso Robles; Andrew Conrad of Atascadero; Travis
Harms of Morro Bay; Harry Goodnight of Arroyo Grande; and Corey Kintzi
of Santa Maria.
Tickets for the concert are $10
for adults and $8 for students, seniors, Jazz Federation members and
children under 12. For more information, contact Cuesta College
