Students Have Options for Higher Education
WITH cuesta college university partners program
Cuesta College students and local
residents can now complete their bachelor’s degree right on Cuesta’s San
Luis Obispo Campus and North County Campus thanks to educational
partnerships with CalState Teach, Columbia College, Chapman University
and the University of La Verne.
These unique partnerships allow
students to earn their teaching credential or transfer into bachelor’s
degree programs that include business administration, criminal justice
administration, interdisciplinary studies, general studies, psychology,
liberal studies, child development and organizational leadership.
According
to Israel Dominguez, Regional Marketing Director for the University of
La Verne, flexibility is what makes the Cuesta College University
Partners different from other academic choices. “The degree programs are
accelerated, convenient evenings classes are offered, dedicated staff
and academic advisors support students and university representatives
are local and friendly,” he said.
“The program is ideal for the
working adult. Many of the university partners also are preparing to
offer additional bachelor and master degree programs.”
According to
Dan Chacón, Cuesta College Vice President of Student Support, the
program is ideal for the needs of those working and living on the
Central Coast. “With much enthusiasm, Cuesta College and the University
Partners have committed to a long-term relationship of delivering higher
education programs in San Luis Obispo County and neighboring areas,” he
said. “Our goal is to offer practical education to further enhance the
level of knowledge and service of those involved in several
disciplines.”
Harry
Schade, Cuesta College Vice President of Student Learning,
agreed that Cuesta College and the University Partners are
wonderful options for students and for the community. “Students deserve
to have several local choices of a university that will meet their needs
to complete their education while remaining in San Luis Obispo County,”
he said. “The fact that enrollment in these degree programs continues to
increase is proof of the local demand.”
The program made all the
difference for Kathy Hight, a summer 2005 graduate of the University of
La Verne. “As a working adult, with a family, a job, and completing a
degree, going through the University of La Verne and earning my Bachelor
of Arts in Liberal Studies was a great experience. I know I made the
right choice,” she said.
