Faculty Enriched by Grants

Faculty development has gotten a little boost. The Faculty Professional Development Committee has approved two grant applications, one by David Diaz and Sarah Guglielmo, the other by Karen Robert, for $1,000 each.

Diaz’s and Guglielmo’s project is entitled “The Effect of Course Length on Success and Attrition in Two Online Health Education Classes.” The study will focus on whether shorter class duration – such as four, six or nine weeks – for online courses will reduce drops and improve attrition.

Robert’s project is a First Annual Faculty Retreat, entitled “Creating a Thriving Community of Learners.” The retreat, to be held during October Flex Days, will be held in Santa Barbara. According to Robert, “the purpose of this retreat is to bring faculty together to collaborate on issues relevant to student success.”
