Claudia Hayner is the Outstanding Classified Employee of the Year

As many already know, much of the pioneering spirit and heart of the North County Campus is anchored in front of the office of that campus’ Executive Dean. Claudia Hayner is receiving some long overdue recognition, and has been named the Outstanding Classified Employee for 2003.

Hayner’s accomplishments at Cuesta are almost too numerous to list. She was hired in October, 1968 as a typist clerk in Counseling, and has since built a solid reputation as a problem-solver, organizer and someone who will go “the extra mile.” According to one nominator and supervisor Sandee McLaughlin, her acceptance of the position as North County Campus Executive Dean carried one condition – Claudia would continue to serve as her Administrative Assistant. “My deep appreciation for Claudia lies in her willingness to learn new information and to take on new tasks in order to accomplish goals – goals for the department or the college, not necessarily for personal gain,” McLaughlin said.

Hayner’s knowledge and expert skills were instrumental in launching the administrative office for the North County Campus, which opened in fall of 1999. She has served as president for the Classified Union, and has volunteered for numerous activities, including the Athletic Department biathlons. She attended Bakersfield Community College and is EMT certified.
