Our male selection for May is sophomore runner Adam
Sprein. A strong runner for the Cuesta program the last two seasons, Sprein has
kicked it into high gear at the end of his sophomore campaign. He is one of
only two Cuesta athletes competing in three events at this weekend’s 2003
Southern California Regional Finals and will compete in the 200-meter dash, the
110 hurdles and the 4 x 100 relay. He finished second in the Western State
Conference (WSC) Championships in the 110 hurdles (:14.72) and third in the 200
meters (:21.6) to qualify for the post-season event. His time in the hurdles is
the 7th fastest in the State this year and his relay team should challenge the
school record set in 1977.
The Cougars finished third in the WSC and have sent
15 athletes onto the 2003 Southern California Regional Finals.
