Diaz and Cartnal Publish Again

Health Educator David Diaz, and Director of Institutional Research Ryan Cartnal, recently published an article titled, Term Length as an Indicator of Attrition in Online Learning in the June/July, 2006 issue of the “Innovate Journal.”  The article is available online at http://www.innovateonline.info/index.php?view=article&id=196

In this article, Diaz and Cartnal discuss the attrition rates in online learning as well as possible causes and solutions.  They explore the impact of term length on drop rates, advocating a shorter term to enable time-strapped students to complete courses more efficiently.

This is the second article that Diaz and Cartnal have published together.  Their first article, Students' learning styles in two classes: Online distance learning and equivalent on-campus, was published in the Fall 1999 issue of “College Teaching.”  This celebrated article has been called one of the most influential articles in the area of learning styles in online learning.
