Bond Update

The District is continuing its efforts to evaluate and educate on the issue of a possible bond measure next year. Informational meetings have been held on-campus and the “Report to the Community,” which is hot of the press, has been inter-campus mailed to all faculty, management and staff.

The District is observing the following timeline for the process:

Bond Proceeds can be used for the construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation or replacement of school facilities. They also can be used for furnishings and equipment (e.g. computers, desks and books) and the acquisition or lease of real property. The proceeds can not be used for salaries or operating expenses.

In May 2005, an initial voter poll was conducted to determine the feasibility of passing a bond in San Luis Obispo County. Here are some of the highlights of that poll:

  • Voters know “Cuesta College” better than SLOCCCD
  • 74.8% rated Cuesta College excellent or good, 9% fair, 11% weren’t familiar
  • 64.9% said “Definitely Yes” or “Probably Yes” they would support bond measure
  • 79.8% said “Much More” or “Somewhat More” likely to support if it includes science and technology facilities
  • 80.4% likely to support repair & renovation
  • 83.1% likely to support improving accessibility
  • 81.2% likely to support new facilities in science, high technology, computer labs for job skills
  • Voters value Cuesta College, support job training and academic transfer, and say, “first fix what you’ve got.”

The next bond information meeting is scheduled at the North County Campus on Wednesday, November 30th.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.
