• To compete in the Southern California Cross Country Championship Finals and send five runners to the State Championships on November 20! Way to coach, Jani Johnson!

• To redesign, mark and prepare a different racecourse in a matter of just a few days on the Fairbanks Cross County Course following a huge rainstorm. Thank you Grounds Team Pat Elias, Jon Bruckner, Gabe Camelli, Martin Cattoir, Scott Demello, Steve Marinelli, Steve Watkins, Steve Winterberg, Paul Wright, and PE/Athletics staff Tommy Gin!

• To host the Cuesta College Wrestling Invitational with the top teams in the state. Congratulations Coach Joe Dansby!

• To listen, deliberate, and prioritize the seven top faculty positions to hire for 2005-2006. Good decision-making by the Shared Governance Council and Units and Clusters who prioritized these faculty positions: Welding, ESL, Physical Sciences, Nursing, Art History/Appreciation, Counseling. History is a priority from last year already in process. Think of all the interview teams!

• To perform beautiful Wind Ensemble music, lively Jazz, and lovely Choral music. Excellent teamwork among the music faculty and by the students. Great teaching and entertainment, Jennifer Martin, John Knutson, James Miles, Rudolph Budginas, and George Stone…and there are concerts yet to come!

• To create the Campus Climate Committee and prepare Transfer Day activities. Thank you, instructors and counselors, Student Services staff and managers, Deans, Public Information and Marketing staff, Custodial crew—and just about everyone who welcomed colleges and universities and got our students involved in planning their successful transfer. It takes the support of the entire team to get each student transferred. Celebrating transfer is core to our campus climate!

• To interview and recommend finalists for the Director of Academic Support/DSPS and the Executive Director of the Foundation/Institutional Advancement. Thank you interview team members: Bradford Anderson, Kevin Bontenbal, Peter Dill, Susan Dressler, Ilene French, Connie Gannon, Susie Gillette, Jeanne Greenelsh, Mary Hastings, Ed Maduli, Sandee McLaughlin, Berta Parrish, Kathy Peters, Marsha Robinson, Marie Rosenwasser, Harry Schade, Gil Stork, Mark Tomes, Ellen Young, and Cheryl Ziehl.

• To plan and execute a terrific Faculty Retreat. Three cheers for Bailey Drechsler and Jennifer Sanders who were the lead facilitators.

And what is amazing, is that so much more cross-campus and inter-disciplinary work could be mentioned. But one of the lessons of the hiring process is that the cross-college committees are well-honed teams all pulling for one goal—finding and hiring the best people we can. So just like the musicians and athletes, lots of us have been on teams and right now we are in a race to finish before this semester ends. Wish us well.

And remember, no one has to read an application, organize a tournament, or interview anyone on Thanksgiving Day! So enjoy!!!
