David Ryal is a "Man of Equality"

Starting a business is hard enough, regardless of gender. David Ryal has been recognized for his efforts in helping women entrepreneurs, by being named the 2003 "Man of Equality" by Women’s Economic Ventures in Santa Barbara County. The annual award was given October 15 at the organization’s annual luncheon in Santa Barbara. Ryal is the director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The "Man of Equality" Award is given to an individual, who in the course of their business, support the endeavors of women entrepreneurs at the same level as male entrepreneurs. Ryal was instrumental in bringing 14-week, self-employment training classes by Women’s Economic Ventures to San Luis Obispo County.

According to Mike Kauffman, chair of the Women’s Economic Ventures Board, Ryal’s actions stood head and shoulders above the efforts of his peers. "Ryal collaborated with organizations across the board, making sure the resources were building on each other, not competing," he said. Ryal’s award was acknowledged through certificates of recognition by the offices of Congresswoman Lois Capps and Assemblywoman Hannah Beth-Jackson.
