MyCuesta FAQs

What is MyCuesta?

MyCuesta is the name of the new employee and student portal.

What is a portal?

A portal is a web site that offers a broad array of information and services, such as e-mail, forums, search engines, etc.

The MyCuesta portal will provide students and employees with one-stop, personalized access to Cuesta College information. This information is delivered to various channels and can be accessed via the Internet, anywhere in the world, at any time of day.  A unique personal login and password is required to access MyCuesta.  A single page may consist of many channels.

You will access Banner screens from MyCuesta.  As the Banner modules are implemented, you will access the screens and information from your MyCuesta channels.

What do you mean by personalized access?

Your portal will be tailored to you depending on your role at Cuesta College, student, faculty or staff.  In addition, there is a catalog of channels available that you can add to further customize your portal page.

What is a channel?

Channels provide at-a-glance information with links to supporting web pages or resources.  Channels are differentiated from one another by borders, a title, and a tool bar.  Each channel has unique content that is owned by a group or department. Some of the channels will contains information unique to the person logged in, like courses being taught, previous pay stubs, vacation accrual hours, etc. Some channel content is controlled by others while some can be customized by the individual user.

What are some examples of common channels?

  • Campus announcements
  • E-mail
  • Department information
  • Cougar sports updates
  • Community Events
  • Research news
  • Search
  • Banner

What is the difference between MyCuesta and Banner?

MyCuesta is the web based entrance to the Banner services for Cuesta College employees and students. MyCuesta also provides a place for these users to find important information about campus services and events.

So when will MyCuesta be available?

MyCuesta will first be available for employees only. This is scheduled to launch Spring 2007.  MyCuesta for students will occur later in 2007.

Will this affect how I get my rosters and post grades?

When it is first launched, IRIS will still be available as it is today. During Spring semester, the web site will be modified so that IRIS is only available via MyCuesta. Once Banner is fully implemented, IRIS will be replaced with the Banner version of  IRIS.
