Working Together to Tell Cuesta's Story

The Cuesta College Marketing and Communications Department recently completed principle photography on a TV commercial to promote the electronics programs that are offered in the Engineering and Technology Division for spring 2007.

According to Tim Channell, Cuesta’s newly hired Director of Marketing and Communications, the commercial is the first in a series of new multi-media campaigns designed to reach specific demographic groups, known in the marketing and advertising industry as market segmentation.  “This unique commercial is a first step in our efforts to develop a contemporary and proactive college brand designed to more effectively reach potential students interested in our extensive course and program offerings,” said Channell.

Bret Allen, electronics instructor provided exciting technology oriented displays in two labs and Bree Valle, full-time drama faculty provide eleven Cuesta College student actors to portray a variety of roles. The commercial will broadcast as a 30 second spot on local broadcast and cable channels starting in early November. Additionally, the commercial will be formatted as a one minute web commercial that will be accessible from Cuesta’s web site to further enhance the visibility of Cuesta’s electronics course offerings. “The commercial will be very cutting edge with extensive use of state-of-the-art motion graphics and will provide a new fresh look for our commercials” says Stephan Gunsaulus, Publications and Marketing Coordinator, responsible for Cuesta’s Print publications and electronic commercial production.

Toni Sommer, Dean of Workforce Development provided the funding for both the commercial production and air-time required to promote the electronics programs from grant funds.
