PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Thank-you all for a great start to fall semester! Opening Day with Dr. Schlain and meeting all of our new employees was so stimulating. Walking the campus in the first few weeks and checking in with you and your students told me you are happier and more upbeat because enrollment is up, contracts are settled, and our campuses are in good shape.
This issue is filled with breaking news and messages of welcome, congratulations, and fond memories of colleagues who have passed. Breaking news:
- Student enrollment (headcount) for this point in the semester breaks historical records for our College – 11,150.
- The number of full-time faculty is at an all-time high – 163.
- Total number of Cuesta College employees breaks records – 830.
- Cuesta’s student loan default rate is at a record-breaking low – 4.8%.
- “Sci-Fi City” is complete with the creation of new chemistry labs in modular buildings located near the Children’s Center.
- Cuesta now has a new Director of Marketing and Communication (formerly known as Public Information and Marketing) – Welcome, Tim Channell.
- Welcome also Anthony Guttierez, new Coordinator of Student Development and Activities (formerly known as Student Life and Leadership).
- Our new Theater Arts Building was salvaged by a special allocation in the 2006-2007 budget, bidding is underway, could possibly break ground in December!
