North Campus Recognized for a Star |

The Star Award for August has set a precedent. Introduced in l997, the honor is most often presented to an outstanding member of the Cuesta community or more infrequently, a board or committee whose work has gone above and beyond the call of duty. But for the last month of summer, the recipient was the entire North County Campus. “We had so many individuals nominated from North Campus that we just decided to do the Star for everyone there,” says Human Resources Analyst Debbie Milner. For one thing, says Milner, those who call the satellite facility home are no strangers to teamwork. Last semester, that ethic involved several faculty who helped one another fill unexpected vacancies, not just for a day or two but often longer. NC employees also take enormous pride in the campus – along with students and members of the service society Alpha Gamma Sigma, they have kept Dallons Drive (the main thoroughfare running east to west through the center of campus) free of litter and immaculately groomed. Milner adds that NC has also distinguished itself with its well-attended poetry readings, celebration of Mexican Independence Day and active participation in the cultural Diversity and Student Equity Committee (CDSE). The Star also recognizes the fact that NC campus members completely coordinate the Mid-State Fair booth every year, and also did an outstanding job at the barbeque and new employee orientation on August 12. The North Campus Star ceremony took place on September 12, with Cuesta College President Marie Rosenwasser sprinkling stardust and presenting a proclamation that lists all of the faculty and staff of the North Campus.
