New Learning Community Course Set for Spring

Linking students and faculty with one integrated curriculum, classes under the Learning Community banner – begun just four years ago at Cuesta -- often provide a welcome augmentation to stand-alone courses.

The newest LC offering is Pre-Nursing Academic Rx, slated to begin this spring and meet three mornings per week.  Designed for students thinking about a career in nursing or other allied health fields (including a psych tech or medical assistant), this course cluster will help students coordinate the demands of these health professions.  The combination will be English 1A (English Composition), Math 93B (Medicine Math for Nursing) and ACASK 93C (Critical Reading for the Allied Health), and will be respectively taught by Steve Leone, Jennifer Sanders and Marsha Robinson.  Connie Gannon and Mary Parker wrote a Nursing Workforce Investment Act grant to fund the innovative course, which will combine reading, writing and researching with critical thinking and computational coursework.  For more information on this newest LC offering, or for those interested in a nursing or allied health career who need English 1A, contact Cuesta nursing counselors Dorothy Teola or Barbara Broersma at ext. 2137.
