Help is on the way to the victims of Hurricane Katrina thanks to Kim Volk, Eric McDonald, Mid-State Bank and many classified employees, faculty and managers. Cuesta employees raised a total of $5440.80 for hurricane victims, which Mid-State Bank matched, for a grand total of $10,881.60. In addition, Classified Employees raised $329.03 for the United States Humane Society to help stranded and homeless pets from the devastating hurricane. Volk organized and was the driving force behind the on-campus fundraising effort that was the brainchild of McDonald, who was moved by the tragedy that has now left more than 1,000 people dead. Classified employees volunteered to staff a donation table outside of the SLO Campus Cafeteria for several days in September. In addition, donation drop-off points were located at the Cashiers Office and Switchboard. |
