PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Hurricane Katrina victims appreciate our support!
The California Community Colleges have a goal of raising $10,000 per college to support Hurricane Katrina victims. Some colleges are holding benefit concerts, organizing fund-raising drives with a goal of at least $1.00/student, others are organizing Hurricane Katrina Days during which students/employees contribute cash and checks to Red Cross or a bank that will match funds. Thousands of community college students in Mississippi, Louisiana and other affected states have lost both their homes and much of their college. The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) has donated $10,000 toward the goal of the California Community Colleges raising $1,000,000 for Hurricane Katrina survivors. What do the Cuesta College employees and students want Cuesta to do to help Hurricane Katrina survivors.
My grateful appreciation to:
The classified staff who answered the phones, called prospective students and encouraged them to register, registered students, sold them books, accepted their payments, facilitated their financial aid, and helped all of us get fall semester off to a good start.
The faculty who added students to their classes, sometimes beyond capacity and sometimes when it took extra time to help late enrollees catch up.
The confidential/supervisory/managerial staff who helped manage the recruitment, counseling, scheduling, and delivery of service to the 10,702 students registered this fall.
Special recognition goes to ASCC President/Student Trustee Kristina Krutop and the ASCC officers and senate, as well as the Student Development staff for the successful student/administrator/union leaders dialogue held on September 9. We have bright, involved student leaders, who asked good questions that indicated how much they care about decisions made at their college and how affected they are by college politics, campus environment, and their out-of-class as well as in-class experiences.
