The 2006-2007 Governor’s Budget provides increased funding for the Cuesta College Theater Arts Building, which will go out to bid for a construction contract again in September 2006. The proposed 400-seat Theater Arts Building is planned for Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo Campus. It will provide 24,193 square-feet of space for Performing Arts students, including labs to teach scenery construction, costume construction, staging and makeup. This building has gone out to bid twice before, once in July 2004 and again in June 2005. Both times the bids came in over the projected cost and were rejected. With the increased funding from the state of California, the Cuesta College Board of Trustees may be more likely to accept a construction bid. The Theater Arts building will fulfill the needs of Cuesta College students pursuing a career in the performing arts.
