Committees Being Formed: Thank you for signing up for committees. You can expect the first draft of 2005-2006 committee membership before fall semester begins. And a big thank-you to all the committee chairs and members for excellent committee reports in 2004-2005. See the summary of the year-end committee reports for a good look at Cuesta College’s shared governance at work.
Potential Bond Campaign: This summer we have been planning Phase I—Public Information/Community Input regarding a local bond measure for facilities for Cuesta College. Public opinion poll results were reported to the Board of Trustees in June. The May 2005 opinion poll was conducted by William Berry Campaigns, consisting of a representative sample of 500 registered voters from throughout SLO County, and came back in strong support of the college district with high likelihood of support for a local bond measure that would cost the homeowner up to $25.00 per $100,000 assessed property value. The District Bond Core Group is being formed; members will include representatives from the Academic and Management Senates, CCFT, CCCUE, Associated Students, Cabinet, Board of Trustees, and Board of Directors. More information about the potential bond campaign will be presented on District Opening Day, August 12.
Faculty and Staff Hiring: It may be summer but many faculty, administrators, managers, and classified staff are busy recruiting, reading applications, interviewing, or helping those recently hired get to know Cuesta College. An additional full-time Nursing instructor was hired when additional funding through partnership with the local hospitals came to fruition. A full-time replacement for Jazz instructor James Miley is being interviewed soon. Full-time temporary and part-time faculty are being sought for several other positions. Classified staff replacements and additions are being recruited, as well. In June, we welcomed Roanna Bennie as the new Dean of Student Learning, Humanities and Ryan Cartnal as the Supervisor, Institutional Research.
