Cuesta Student Sitting Pretty in Chair Competition

Cuesta student David McFadyen is sitting in a good position as one of six finalists in a competition to design a chair using only corrugated cardboard and glue. McFadyen stands, or in this case sits, out as the only finalist from a community college. Other schools represented include Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, Cal Poly, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

The competition, sponsored by the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation and managed by the American Institute of Architecture, challenged students to explore a variety of uses of corrugated cardboard in design and construction. Selected from 93 total submissions, the six finalists will have their chairs on display and judged in the second round jury at the 2006 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in Los Angeles in June.
