Tennis Team
Honored

The 2004 Cuesta Women’s Tennis Team has been selected as a Pepsi/Commission on Athletics Scholar Team recipient.

A great mix of talent on the court and brains in the classroom, the Cougars team was nominated last year after winning the Western State Conference title – and ending the season with a number three state ranking. Five of Cuesta’s six starters earned all of the Conference titles, including Jessie Ritchie, WSC Player of the Year. In addition, seven of the nine team players were named to the All-WSC Academic Team.

The tennis team’s accomplishment was acknowledged at a Celebration of Student Athletes Awards banquet at the COA convention earlier this month. The win marks the fourth time in seven years that a Cuesta athletic team has been recognized with the honor, and the second time that the women’s tennis team has been honored. The latter’s first award was in l998, with the men’s cross-country team winning the prize in 2000 and the water polo team taking the award two years later.
