Cuesta drama teacher Anet Carlin is directing the current offering at the San Luis Obispo Little Theatre. Carlin is helming the production of Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Three Tall Women,” a story about wit, wisdom, the heartbreaks of life and the ultimate beauty of love. Says Carlin: “This play ranks right up there with Albee’s classic ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolff.’ Albee hints that there might be something autobiographical in it, but whatever the source, the play itself is so true, so fine, so subtle, that it makes no difference where the source material came from.” In addition to her North County faculty position at Cuesta, Carlin is the co-founder of several well-known Central Coast theatre venues, including The Great American Melodrama, PCPA and Central Coast Repertory Theatre. She also staged some of the early works at Cuesta’s Interact Theatre, and last year, opened Brickyard TheatreWorks, her eighth theatre group. Carlin has also served on the faculties of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Southern California (USC). She holds both BFA and MFA degrees in Theatre Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. “Three Tall Women” has received critical accolades nationwide. A reviewer for “The New York Times” wrote, “Albee offers a new play so good it can only exist on the stage. A perfect illustration of why theatre is an indispensable art.” |
