Fundraiser for Kids

Cuesta’s Early Childhood Development Center hopes to create a great summer program for kids – and with that goal in mind, is holding a fundraiser in the form of a drawing.

The first prize is $200 in cash and the second prize is $150 in cash. There will also be gift certificates from several San Luis Obispo businesses, including Novo, Boo Boo Records and Tahoe Joe’s. The drawing will take place on April 29 at 11:30 a.m. at the Center office. Winners need not be present and will be contacted by phone.

Monies raised will go toward materials needed for the much-in-demand program (not in the 2004-05 budget since the Center was originally not supposed to be open this summer). Some of the funds will also be earmarked toward an outdoor art studio in the new preschool play yard – a creative space that will encourage children to use their growing imaginations in a variety of art media.
To take part in the drawing, tickets can be purchased for a suggested donation of one dollar per ticket or $10 per booklet. There are several ways to enter the drawing: come by the Center and a staff member will sell you a ticket, or if a buyer is on the San Luis Obispo campus, call the Center and a child and teacher will make a personal visit. Inter-office mail is also an option. One suggestion is to take up an office staff collection and buy a few booklets that way. The goal is to sell 2,000 tickets.

The Center had a similar fundraising effort last year when the Santa Barbara-based Orfalea Foundation - -a private nonprofit organization that supports children’s programs in counties including San Luis Obispo County -- offered matching funding. The idea for a drawing came from preschool staff member Noreen Requiro, and other staffers working hard on this project are Hilary Coy and Cindy Illingworth.
