Experience the newest sounds in jazz as played by one of the premiere community college jazz studies faculty ensembles in California. The Cuesta College jazz faculty will be presenting a concert of new music for small jazz ensemble at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24 in San Luis Obispo Campus Fine Arts Room 7160.
Featured performers are all members of the Cuesta College Jazz Studies faculty, and include saxophonist Dave Becker, drummer (and former Cuesta student) Darrell Voss, and bassist Ken Hustad, all regular fixtures on the San Luis Obispo jazz scene for many years. Also featured will be Cuesta’s newest jazz instructor, guitarist Jeff Miley, along with full-time faculty members James Miley on piano and George Stone on piano and trumpet.
The group is focusing on new compositions and arrangements for this set, including several numbers written specifically for the March 24 program by James Miley (winner of the 2004 Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition) as well as some rarely heard gems by both his brother Jeff and noted composer/arranger George Stone.
All proceeds from this concert go directly towards supporting the jazz studies program at Cuesta College. Tickets for the performance are $10 for adults, $8 for students, seniors and children under 12. For more information, contact Cuesta College Performing Arts at ext.3195. |
