PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: Is part of the “Cuesta Excellence” due to the creativity of our faculty and staff who engage students in exciting projects, special performances, tours, competitions, fairs, and festivals? The answer is A RESOUNDING YES! We have a wonderfully creative faculty and bright students who love being involved in special performances, sports, events, or publications. We all enjoy the results of their creative endeavors. But some of the activities cost more than the College’s budget can support. The enthusiasm, involvement, and support for our faculty and staff in raising money for the many different programs and projects are exciting. Recent events such as the “Wine, Dine and Jazz” event held at Castoro Cellars to support the Vocé and Chamber Singers’ European trip raised over $9,000; and the Latina Leadership Network’s “Wine and Cheese Auction” raised nearly $1,900 to help students and staff attend the California Latina Leadership Conference. Besides events such as these, there are many opportunities for buying tickets, cookie dough, doughnuts, or flowers to support a worthy cause on campus. All the hard work and creativity speak well for the dedication and generosity of the Cuesta family. But fund-raising on or off campus on behalf of a Cuesta College program has to follow appropriate college and IRS rules. The community expects some coherency and consistency in Cuesta’s fund-raising. Our best friends and supporters may get confused when they receive several requests for donations that do not come through the Cuesta College Foundation.continued… |
