What are the key ingredients to great leadership? Local resident and best selling author Dr. Terrence E. Deal may provide some insight when he speaks at 8:30 a.m., Friday, March 17 in San Luis Obispo Campus Conference Center. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. Registration deadline is March 10. Deal is an internationally known expert on leadership and organizations and has taught related courses at Harvard, Vanderbilt, USC and Stanford, where he earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Sociology. He has written 30 books and more than 100 articles including: “When Opposites Dance: Balancing the Manager and Leader Within,” “Leading with Soul: An Uncommon Journey of Spirit,” and “Corporate Cultures: The Rites and Rituals of Corporate Life.” Deal also will talk about his new book: “The Wizard and the Warrior: Leading with Passion and Power.” The book opens leaders’ eyes and gives them the courage to take risks on behalf of the values they cherish and people they lead. Deal highlights the defining moments and experiences of other leaders who wrestle with power and politics, including Carly Fiorina, Lou Gerstner, Thomas Keller (head chef of French Laundry), David Neeleman (CEO of Jet Blue), Mary Kay Ash, Warren Buffet, Anne Mulcahy, George Marshall, and Abraham Lincoln. These engaging, realistic case studies are followed by commentaries that will raise questions and suggest possibilities without rushing to resolution or simple answers. General admission is $20. Admission is free for the Cuesta College Business Partners. Register online at http://www.communityprograms.net or by calling the Cuesta Community Programs Department at ext. 3132. |
