Cuesta College Web Site Trends
February 2005 Report

Every six months, we revisit the past year to study trends and curiosities about the Cuesta College web site. The following statistics were reported by Catherine Werst at a Web Executive Board meeting in February.

General top statistics:

In 2004, there were 287,780 visitors to our home page.  Compared to traffic from June ’03 to June ’04, this is a 15% increase in visitors. If we continue this trend, we can expect close to 34,000 visitors in April of ’05.

The most popular pages beyond the home page are:

• PAWS (Personal Access to Web Services)

• The new Department listings (this is a new area, and is highly popular with our visitors)

• Student information page (also recently overhauled, with popular results)

• News & Headlines

• Catalogs & Schedules

• Faculty home pages – this is the first time this area has made the top 6 list, and shows that students are looking for their instructors online more than ever.

Interesting visitor facts:

In December, we were visited by about 850 Italians. We don’t know exactly what they were looking for, but it’s an unusually high number for Italy.

Many people discovered the Cuesta College website by typing “Fashion Design & Merchandising” into a Google search.

What’s the point?

We use this information, along with search terms, emails and other interaction with the site, to determine if we are answering questions and providing timely, accessible and accurate information to our visitors. Every couple of years we redesign the Cuesta College web site with all of these factors in mind. This has been a very effective process for making the web site a popular and friendly destination for our students, community and employees.
