Enjoy reading books that provide varied perspectives on current issues? Looking for articulate discussions about those books? If the answer to either of these two questions is yes, the Cultural Diversity/ Student Equity Committee book club might be just the place for you. All are invited to join the committee’s current book discussion group, whose theme is “Bridges Across Cultures.” To that end, the book that will be read is “White Privilege Second Edition: Essential Readings on The Other Side of Racism,” edited by Paula S. Rothenberg. (Copies can be purchased at the Cuesta bookstore.) A collection of writings on race, prejudice, power and privilege, Rothenberg’s text will provide a springboard to topics, including the definition of white skin privilege; the possibility of denouncing that privilege, and what can be done to unlearn racism. The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 17, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the home of Bailey Drechsler, 540 Princeton Place, San Luis Obispo. Appetizers will be served. For directions, call 545-8373. |
