Introduction
Cuesta College offers a one-semester course in introductory astronomy (Astr 10), along with a laboratory section (Astr 10L) that can either be taken concurrently or consecutively.
Astronomy 10 is a conceptual survey of celestial cycles, the solar system, stars and galaxies, cosmology and other current topics in astronomy.   Teaching modes include traditional lecture instruction, supplemented with written group assignments and use of an individual electronic response system ("clickers").
Astronomy 10L is a hands-on laboratory emphasizing naked-eye and simple telescope observations, along with quantitative analysis methods used in planetology and stellar astronomy.

The Bowen Celestial Observatory on top of the Science Forum features a new 14" Meade reflector for use by Cuesta College students and the general public.   Cuesta College also hosts Central Coast Astronomical Society meetings and star parties once a semester.
