| Can I use a different
model calculator other than a TI-83, TI-83 Plus, or TI-84 Plus? |
No! The tutorial that was developed for this course was written
specifically for the TI-83 or TI-84 models only, and can not be used
effectively with any other model. There are simply too many
variations between other models, including operating systems,
features, keys and menus. |

| Should I buy an online
subscription to the tutorial or purchase the CD-ROM? |
There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and each student
must decide what is best for them based upon their needs and
circumstances.
An online subscription is the least expensive option, and
contains the most current information since changes can be made at
any time to the web site. Also, the online tutorial does not require
a CD-ROM drive. However, because you must use the internet to access
the online tutorial, the pages may load more or less slowly based on
the speed of your connection and how much demand the internet is
operating under at the time. Some students have had intermittent access
problems where they could not get the web site to accept their password,
although this problem has been rare. The host server on which the tutorial
web site resides may crash or be unavailable at times, preventing
you from being able to access the web site. Online subscriptions are
subject to an IP limit, which monitors how many times the tutorial
is accessed every day. If you will be using a computer on campus,
there is a good possibility that you may exceed the IP limit and
have your account terminated. To avoid this, you should limit the
number of times you access the tutorial to at most four separate
sessions within any 24 hour period. Also, your subscription will
expire at the end of the semester, and you will no longer have
access to this resource in the future.
The CD-ROM is generally much faster since your computer is
accessing the information directly. Also, the CD is yours to keep,
giving you a nice resource to turn to later on if you need to
refresh some of the calculator skills you learn in this course. The
disadvantages of the CD are that it is more expensive, and the
information it contains cannot be updated with any recent changes,
corrections or additions. Also, if you use AOL, you may want to read the
FAQ regarding a possible conflict with the tutorial and AOL.

| Should I take this
class if I tend to procrastinate? |
Probably not. Students that have a difficult time keeping up with
school work on a regular, weekly basis without someone holding them
accountable usually do poorly in this course. If you tend to wait
right until the deadline to complete required work, you will most
likely get low scores on the quizzes and not get credit for this
course. |

| Where can I get a free
e-mail account? |
The Cuesta Distance Education web site has a nice list of
companies that offer free
e-mail accounts. |

| Where can I access a
computer on campus? |
There are a number of computer labs on campus. Check the Cuesta
Class Schedule for a list of labs that are available. |

| I use AOL for my internet
access. Will this cause any problems? |
It is possible. In the past, some students with AOL have had trouble using the CD-ROM
because AOL tries to establish an internet connection when you insert the CD. To fix this,
try changing your default browser to Internet Explorer instead of AOL. Then open the Index page
of the tutorial in Internet Explorer and save this page to your favorites folder. |

| Will this be an easy
class? |
It should not be a stressful class, but it may or may not be easy
for you. To succeed in this class, you will need to spend time every
week (between 2-3 hours) working through the tutorial. In addition,
there are online quizzes that you will need to study for. The course
is offered Credit / No Credit only, so you must have at least a 70%
in the course to pass. |
