General Comments
"The content has really helped me in my Math 242 class and I am able to do my Math homework without having to struggle with the calculator."

"Hi. I just wanted to let you know I got 100% on my exam. I definitely could not have done that well if I had not known how to use my calculator as well as I do. I was able to check all my answers for correctness and it paid off! Thanks for offering this very valuable resource!"

"It is a lot easier to learn how to use the calculator with the CD, then trying to keep up with the speed of my instructor."

"Let me just say once again how much this software has helped me to understand my calculator better as well as assist me in my math class this semester. You have done an excellent job with it. Thanks again!"

"The course was well worth my time. I'll be using the TI-83 in the future and the skills I learned will be there when I need them."

"I have found this class very helpful as an aid to Math 242. The CD explains the processes thoroughly and is easy to use. I think this class...would also help [students] when they are studying at home if they all had the reference of the CD to refer to. If classmates are having problems, I suggest they buy the CD even if they are not enrolled in Math 142G."

"The main reason for my success in this class was having the information available to me- right at my fingertips when I needed it. The TI-83 manual is way too technical and the Math 242 textbook doesn't present a lot of these certain skills on the calculator, but having this particular resource was a benefit."

"This class has been really beneficial to me so far, and has really taken the guess work out of using the calculator in class and on homework."

"The Math 142G course was put together exceptionally well. I feel I got my investments worth out of my calculator not through the regular class, but this online course!"

"I was able to work through the class at my own pace and work on subjects until I understood them."

"It made Math 242 much easier and gave me an edge..."

"I like being able to learn at my own pace but having a few deadlines to keep myself disciplined. I also think the tutorial explained everything VERY well compared to textbooks, and I appreciated that my questions concerning problems with my calculator were answered very quickly."

What is your opinion of the tutorial used for the course?
"The tutorial was way, way easy to understand. Having pictures of all the buttons was perfect."

"Overall, I think that the tutorial is great (I bought the CD). I will use it as a reference."

"I loved the tutorial!! I'm glad I bought it so that I will have it to refer to in the future. The material was presented in a very basic and clear way. I loved the way the tabs were colored in the text. It just made the whole thing so much easier."

"I thought the tutorial couldn't be any better. It was organized, clear, and thorough."

"Everything was easy to comprehend and was well presented. It was nice having a calculator generated graph to visualize as well as the simple step-by-step procedures."

"The tutorial was very good, easy to follow with clear directions. It was really helpful that there was a quiz at the end of each section where we could review the skills we just learned."

"I liked the button directions as well as the animated screens."

"The tutorial is excellently produced. Easy to follow and useful over a variety of texts."

Would you recommend the tutorial to future students, even if not enrolled in this class?
"Yes. It seemed as though my Math 242 teacher was constantly answering questions about how to use the calculator, questions that would have been answered with the tutorial."

"Definitely. I actually have..."

"Yes, I would recommend that students purchase the tutorial just to have as a resource. It is well worth having!"

"I don't know how valuable it would be if you didn't know the material from Math 242."

"Not a bad idea as an optional, additional resource for Math 242 students. I am glad to own the CD. I am sure I will refer to it in the future."

"Overall, I would like to say that I'm glad this course was valuable and I recommend students to purchase the tutorial even if not in Math 242, for the graphing calculator has far more applications that can be used in other classes."

"Yes. If I had known that my math teacher was going to de-emphasize the calculator so much, I would have bought the tutorial & not taken the class."

"Definitely! It is much easier to understand than the manual that comes with the calculator, and it addresses all necessary topics."

"It's a good investment. Yes, I would recommend it!"

Do you feel this course helped you to become confident in using your calculator?
"Yes, because it gave me options and ways to do things which were not covered in class."

"Some problems that I enter into the calculator I do with ease and without thinking, when before this course all I saw were a bunch of buttons."

"Absolutely! Often my instructor gave vague instructions on how to complete a problem using the calculator. I felt fortunate to have the step-by-step instructions at home."

"I am sure that I would not be able to use the calculator with out this class. I can now use the calculator and am confident that I can expand on my knowledge of it to help in any advanced courses in my future."

"Yes- I know what all the buttons do! It's a tool- a very useful one, and one that I now know how to use."

"Most definitely because at first sight, it was awfully intimidating."

What did you like least about this class?
"...the lack of human contact."

"Too easy to blow off studying."

"I found it hard to commit to a class that had no set class hours. It was hard at times to remember that I was in the class."

"Trying to access the tutorial online. It was often difficult, and I even got locked out because I kept getting disconnected."

"The way my teacher used the calculator was not consistent with the tutorial."

"I had a hard time getting motivated to work through the tutorial. High self-motivation is needed in this class."

"Forcing myself to sit down and work through the material. With a normal course, it is scheduled in advance with sanctions about missing classes, but the online course is unstructured and requires personal dedication."

"The skills that I learned that weren't shown or utilized on the graphing calculator in class made me feel like I was cheating."

Would you recommend this course to future students?
"Yes. If somebody is taking Math 242 and does not know how to use their calculator, they would be silly to not take this class."

"I would recommend it to someone who will be needing to use their calculator a lot. I would warn them, however, that it is a lot of work."

"I would recommend both the class and the tutorial for students, especially after having taken Math 242 and seen how fast the teacher works with the calculator. There is no time to learn how to use the calculator in class."

"Yes, especially if they need that one extra unit. And especially if graphing calculators baffle them."

"Definitely. It should almost be required."

"Yes, very much. If they don't already have a very good grasp of this calculator, I don't see how they can pass Math 242 without it."

"Participating in this class was well worth my time and effort. This class has proven to be a very valuable resource to me and I would recommend it to anyone taking Math 242."

"No. I would just recommend the tutorial."

"Yes! It would be more work trying to figure out how to use the calculator w/o the tutorial. The class also reduced some stress about trying to learn the uses of the calculator."

"I would recommend this class to future students only if they are very school motivated and have no idea how to use their calculator."

What did you find difficult about the course?
"Ability to discipline myself."

"My Math 242 class did not cover everything the online class did. I read the tutorial and did the quiz but did not retain the knowledge because my class did not require me to utilize the topic."

"Keeping myself on track [and] not falling behind."

"The most difficult thing for me was keeping up with the class. It was the easiest thing to let slide when I found myself overwhelmed with everything I had to do. It is not as helpful if you do not keep up with it because then you are not able to use it to help you in the Math 242 class."

"Nothing was *difficult* with this course, it was just a matter of getting started and then sticking with it."

"I felt the class was very hard since I was not in a Math 242 class. Most of the material I had not gone over in class so doing the problems on the calculator was like taking another math class in itself. I would encourage other students who drop their Math 242 class to drop this class as well because learning two separate topics is very hard."

"It was hard to remember I was still enrolled in the class, because I had other classes in mind since I go to school for them."

What were the main reasons for your success in this course?
"The reason for my success in this course was the fact that I wanted to learn...The fact that the course followed my Math 242 class exactly helped a great deal too. I can't say that there was much too difficult about this course except making myself take the time to commit to it."

"Staying pretty much on top of the assignments made the course much easier."

"My success was a direct result of following the tutorial at the SAME pace as my Math 242 class. Mid-semester I was falling behind in class so I put off the tutorial to concentrate on my classwork. I was so disappointed when I learned there were skills I could have used on an exam - after I took it!"

"I did the whole tutorial and sometimes reviewed it again to instill the skills. There is a lot of detail to remember and sometimes it takes repetition otherwise it wasn't too difficult."

How significant was this course to your success in Math 242?
"This class helped out tremendously in Math 242. This was my first time using the calculator, so it helped having a tutorial to guide me. The math book doesn't explain how to use the calculator, so I would have probably done poor in class without it."

"It did help, but not enough to make a significant difference."

"This class was extremely helpful in regards to my Math 242 class. I absolutely could not have done as well as I did without the ability to fully utilize my calculator. I attribute much of my Math 242 success to this class and its direct correlation to Math 242."

"I would have been successful even without this class but I probably would have had to go to my teacher more and would have taken longer to figure things out."

"Without this course my grade would have probably been one whole grade lower. On the last test I took, I got an A because I knew how to use the calculator correctly."

"I think the class helped as an added review. I think it would have been more significant, or helpful, if I had actually kept up with the assignments, instead of doing them after we were finished with them in my Math 242 class."

"I can't imagine that I would have passed the course without it."

"It reinforced the concepts that I was learning in Math 242. It provided an opportunity to practice the calculator skills."

"I don't think it helped because the teacher showed us what we would need for the class, but it did help me become more confident with the calculator."

"I think this class did help in a lot of areas. I was much more literate than most people in my class on how to go through different functions of the TI-83. I think I would have struggled much more without this class."

"This course was a major part of my success in Math 242. I felt as if I had an edge over those in my class who were not enrolled in this class."

"Marginally. Our instructor didn't emphasize the calculator role in my class."

"Sure it helped me. It taught me things that I didn't learn about my calc in Math 242. I would have done just as well without it though."

"It probably helped me some. I'm not sure it made a huge difference, but it saved some homework time."

"This class did help me through Math 242. There were specific problems on tests that probably couldn't have been done without the knowledge from this class. I probably would have dropped a grade if I didn't take this class."

"...this class alleviated the possibility of struggling to learn the calculator at the same time as learning the material in class. It greatly contributed to my feeling of ease in making the calculator work for me, instead of against me. I feel I would have been just as successful in class but it would have taken a lot more time and effort."

"I think Math 242 would have been much more difficult without this class. Even more than just the quizzes, the tutorial allowed me to find the answer to my calculator questions, while I was doing regular homework... it's an excellent resource."

"I don't think this class helped me with my Math 242 class too much. I am very glad I took it though. I think it will definitely help me in my future math classes! However, even if it doesn't I still learned a lot."

"This course was pretty significant. I definitely would not have done as well in Math 242 without the calculator section."

"The class helped me review what I learned in class and the calculator techniques explained things a different way than lecture, helping me figure out things I didn't understand from class."

"While this course is not crucial for success in Math 242, it definitely helped. When the professor introduced some calculator concepts during class times, I often found that I already knew how to do them and how to avoid common mistakes. I repeatedly helped other students during these times."

"Yes. Definitely. In the Math 242 class, there is no time to teach us how to use the calculator. The instructor only has time to show the class how to do something on the calculator once, and sometimes it's too fast for me to follow. But for me, the most important part is that 142G gave me more confidence on the calculator, so that when I study for a test or exam, I don't have to worry about remembering what to do on the calculator."

"This class helped me succeed in my Math 242 class. Last time I took Math 242 I had to drop the class, and this time, because I was supplemented with this class, I have an A in the class."
