This site begins to explore the possibilities of writing and illustrating either a graphic novel or a body of work that makes a narrative statement. The syllabus embraces sequential work that unfolds as a narrative- this will open up interesting possibilities and encourage solutions that may include, but are not limited to, the comic format.
The actual class will be available in the Fall, 2003 schedule as a Distance Education course entitled "Advanced Drawing Through Distance Education". By definition, this distance class is a temporary, experimental offering. Nine weeks is the duration of the course.
Included in the research will be developing ideas about plot, looking at traditional and non-traditional drawing, finding uses for the computer (scanning, photography, Photoshop etc.) discussing graphic novel history, discovering stylistic influences and finding both short cuts and labor-intensive solutions.
