  • The topics for this week are  dominant & non-dominant group relationships, access to power, access to education, access to economic & community health resources, prejudice, racism, institutional discrimination, personal risk factors for chronic disease and definitions of terms
     

  • The course objectives addressed are # 1 Examine and analyze the dimensions of health as defined by a variety of non-dominant ethnic/racial groups. # 2  Evaluate the impact of discrimination, racism, and prejudice on the physical, psychological and spiritual health of non-dominant ethnic groups and minorities. # 5 Evaluate individual risk factors for chronic diseases based on age, genetics, environmental health & nutrition choices.
     

  • The course outcomes addressed are # 3 Evaluate contemporary media and literature for institutional discrimination and analyze examples of dominant and non-dominant group conflict. # 6 Differentiate between bias, prejudicial and/or discriminatory behavior and non-judgmental and acceptance of others behavior/attitudes.  # 3 Diversity Rubric: Examine struggles of non dominant groups for power, justice, and access to resources. # 7 Health Rubric: Examining the relationship between values and beliefs and mental health.  Utilize this relationship to create effective interpersonal communication in relationships, coping, prevention of addictive behaviors, and personal safety.
