mbasti@cuesta.edu to confirm your enrollment, letting me know how you
will be successful in this class, and that your are able to attend all 3
MANDATORY meetings, then Click on the link
below to complete the Online Orientation and proceed to complete the first

Special Needs:

Minimum Computer Requirements
-
You must have access to a current generation PC or MAC computer,
Cuesta College g-mail account, and a reliable Internet connection
(Internet Service Provider (ISP).
-
Upgrade your
computer software to the current or most recent version of Internet
Explorer (IE). Students who choose to use Fire Fox and/or Safari
may have difficulty viewing some of the pages in the virtual classroom
and web links embedded in weekly homework.
-
I strongly advise against
using an SBC browser or America Online (AOL), Hotmail, or CompuServe as your ISP for taking
distance hybrid
courses. There are some features in the Distance Hybrid course that
will not be available to you if you connect using AOL.
-
To assure your computer will interface
with the college technology and allow you to log in to my Cuesta and follow the instructions on the link:
https://my.cuesta.edu/cp/home/displaylogin
- It is recommended that you
have a back-up plan in case your provider or your computer goes down. There
are computers on campus that students can use. Most of your
weekly homework assignments will be emailed directly to me and/or posted as a News Article in myCuesta/myCourses. Should you encounter an unexpected
problem with your technology, please contact me by phone right away if you are concerned
about meeting homework and assignment due dates.
-
It is the student's
responsibility to maintain a reliable email account that interfaces with
the Cuesta server. The
college currently does not offer technical support for students taking
Distance/Hybrid courses.
-
It is essential that you
have intermediate technical skill competency to compose and send email, participate in a Chat Room, Message board,
importing a WORD document into an email, web navigation, and online communication to
succeed in this course.
-
It is highly recommended to
have a current virus detection program on your computer during this class.
|
|
Syllabus:
The syllabus
and other diversity course materials are distributed at the first Mandatory meeting. The syllabus delineates student
responsibilities, course outcomes, general course requirements, virtual
classroom etiquette, the grading policy, approved textbooks, instructions
for completing assignments, Cuesta College
Health and Diversity Requirement for Graduation, a Score Tracking Tool,
extra credit options, and methods of instruction. The student is expected
to read the syllabus and take responsibility for adhering to course
policies and due dates.

Approved
Textbook:
Teague, M.,
Mackenzie, S. and D. Rosenthal ( 2009). Your Health Today: Choices in a
Changing Society. (2nd ed. ) New York: NY, McGraw- Hill
To purchase an e text Go to:College
Textbooks in Online Format made affordable Then type in Your Health Today
and click search, then Click
CourseSmart - 0077286170 - Your Health Today, 2nd Edition at the top of the page.
-
Additionally, there are
copies of the approved textbook (Teague et al, 2nd ed.) on 2-hour reserve at both the SLO and North
County libraries.
- While it is highly recommended
students purchase the approved textbook for HE ED 208 to use for this Distance Hybrid
class, I have embedded reliable web links in our weekly homework to make
health content with a
diversity perspective available to those students who opt not to purchase a
textbook.
- Note: Any previous editions of the
custom textbook Multicultural Health or any other variations of
'Your Health Today' will NOT be sufficient for the class. All
homework and assignment are based on and paginated for the approved
textbook.
- Previous students have found the optional textbook
invaluable to have at home to complete weekly
homework questions. It is HIGHLY recommended that HE 208 Distance Hybrid students purchase a
copy of the optional
textbook
"Transcultural Health Care" by Purnell & Paulanka
published by Davis, copyright 2003 (a
used copy will suffice). Either the 1st
or 2nd editions of this optional text will be useful to students. Textbooks
can be purchased at the bookstore on either
the SLO Campus or North County Center' or online at
Cuesta College Bookstore
Additionally, the optional textbook by Purnell & Paulanka is available on
reserve at the SLO and North County libraries.
- You will want to have a medium size 3-ring
binder to organize course materials, notes, weekly homework questions,
scored
assignments, and other reference material downloaded/printed from the Internet.
Our exams will be open note, open book, open handout, and timed.
