Welcome to Health Education
202 Distance Learning To access the virtual classroom and continue in the course you will need to contact me by email at mbasti@cuesta.edu to confirm your enrollment in the class and complete the Online Orientation. The log-in instructions for the Virtual Classroom including the User name and Password will be sent to students who have confirmed their enrollment with the instructor and completed the Online Orientation during the first week of the semester. In order to receive the log in information the student must have an active myCuesta g-mail account. Please set up your myCuesta g-mail account now, if you have not already done so. ***There are NO required face-to-face or on campus meetings for this class. Regular effective contact between the instructor and student is met by completing regularly scheduled weekly homework and assignments designed to meet the course objectives and outcomes. The two midterm exams will be administered electronically the week of 11 October 2010 (midterm #1) and the week of 29 November 2010 (midterm #2). It is essential students plan accordingly to make sure they are available to access a computer to complete the exams. Students will be provided instructions via myCuesta g-mail, the Virtual Classroom, and the Course Syllabus for exam procedures. It is the students responsibility to check their myCuesta g-mail Inbox and log-in to the Virtual Classroom and clarify any questions before due dates/times for all homework, exams and assignments. Students will not have access to the full course (virtual classroom) until after they contact the instructor, confirm their official enrollment in the class and complete the Online Orientation. The URL for the virtual classroom is http://academic.cuesta.edu/mbasti/he202online A user name and password is necessary to access the virtual classroom. The log-in information for the course is provided to students who complete the above steps.

Minimum Computer Requirements
§ You must have
access to a current generation PC or MAC computer, a § Upgrade your computer software to the current or most recent version of Internet Explorer (IE) Students who choose to use Fire Fox and/or Safari may have difficulty viewing some of the pages in the virtual classroom and web links embedded in weekly homework.
§
To assure your
computer will interface with the college technology and allow you to log in
to myCuesta/myCourses follow the instructions on the
link below: https://my.cuesta.edu/cp/home/displaylogin
§ It is the
student's responsibility to maintain a reliable e-mail account that
interfaces with the Cuesta server. The college currently does not offer
technical support for students taking Distance Learning courses.
§ I strongly
advise against using an SBC browser, America Online (AOL), Hotmail, or
CompuServe as your ISP for taking distance or distance hybrid courses.
There are some features in this Distance Learning course that will not be
available to you if you connect using AOL. Students have experienced
problems with Charter DSL as well.
§
It is
essential that you have
intermediate computer skills to log in & navigate the
virtual classroom and myCourses, copy and paste a WORD document into an
e-mail, participate in a Chat
Room, Message board, web
navigation, and online communication to succeed in this course. If you
are unfamiliar with how a computer works or how to navigate the Internet and
access myCuesta g-mail, it is highly recommended you consider taking the Introduction to
Online Courses (DIST 101) before registering for an online class. § ***It is highly recommended to have a current virus detection program on your computer during this class.

Syllabus & Course Materials: The course policy statements, course requirements, and other information posted on these Registration Welcome Instruction pages for HE 202 distance are an integral part of the course syllabus. Additional course materials & other parts of the syllabus will be posted in myCuesta/myCourses under Files by the end of the first week of classes or sooner if myCourses becomes available to students and the instructor. The syllabus delineates student responsibilities, general course requirements, virtual classroom etiquette, the grading policy, approved textbooks, instructions for completing assignments, scoring rubrics, Cuesta College Health Requirement for Graduation, a Score Tracking Tool, Extra Credit opportunities, and methods of instruction. The student is expected to read the syllabus and take responsibility for adhering to course policies, requirements and Due Dates/times. It is highly suggested students print a copy of the course materials and syllabus for future reference. Course Materials posted under Files include the official Course Outline of Record, Student Learning Outcomes, study guides, work sheets, forms, and handouts to complete assignments e.g., food label analysis.
