ATB Ability to Benefit

The Ability To Benefit test (ATB) is for students without a high school diploma, or its equivalent, who wish to apply for Title IV Student Financial Aid.

Free Practice Test Booklets are available at the San Luis Obispo Campus Assessment Center and in North County Student Services Office.

Tests are administered in the Assessment Center on the Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo Campus, in the High Tech Center (2nd Floor, Room 3414) and at the North County Campus in Building N3000, Room N3009.

Cost

There are no fees involved in taking the ATB Test.

Scheduling a Test Date

You may sign up to take the test by calling or stopping by the SLO Campus Assessment Center at (805) 546-3100 x2314, High Tech Building (Bldg. 3400), 2nd Floor, Room 3414 or the North County Campus at (805) 591-6210.

The Test

The test takes approximately 1 - 1½ hours to complete.

The test consists of a 50 multiple choice English questions and 45 multiple choice math questions.

Test review is advisable prior to taking the test. Free Practice Test Booklets are available at the Assessment Center.

Come Prepared

Come prepared to your test, both in terms of alotting enough time and bringing the necessary items:

  • Arrive early.  Late arrivals will not be admitted.
  • Bring a photo ID and your Cuesta ID number.
  • Bring $2.00 for a day-use parking permit (and allot time to park), as all cars parked at Cuesta College must display a parking permit.  You can purchase your day-use parking permit at the yellow kiosks locate in each parking lot.
