American Constitution Test

The American Constitution Test is designed for teachers candidates who have not completed the Constitution requirement for a credential. This test meets the state requirements but does not provide course units of credit. Upon successfully passing the examination, a transcript of record will be issued to you.

Tests are administered in the Assessment Office on the Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo Campus in the High Tech Center (second floor, Room 3414).
AND at Cuesta College, North County Campus Building 3000, Student Services, N3039.

Cost: $ 40.00 (payable by cash or check at time of testing)

Scheduling a Test Date

The American Constitution Test may be taken:

  • By appointment on scheduled Saturday test dates (listed below).
  • By special arrangement made directly with, Bruce Follette, assessment assistant.

Upcoming San Luis Obispo Campus Saturday Test Dates

Below are up-coming Saturday test dates at the SLO Campus

  • December 5, 2009 at 11 a.m.
  • January 9, 2010 at 11 a.m.
  • February 6, 2010 at 11 a.m.
  • No testing in March, 2010.
  • April 3, 2010 at 11 a.m.
  • May 8, 2010 at 11 a.m.
  • No Saturday testing in June or July
  • For tests during the week, call Bruce Follette (see above)

The Test

The test consists of 100 objective questions in multiple choice and true/false format.

  • Allow at least one hour to complete the test.
  • Test review, prior to taking the test, is advisable (see below for suggestions).

Come Prepared

Come prepared to your test, both in terms of alotting enough time and bringing the necessary items:

  • Arrive early
  • Bring a photo ID
  • Bring  the $40.00 test fee (cash or check accepted)
  • Bring $2.00 for a day-use parking permit (and allot time to park), as all cars parked at Cuesta College must display a parking permit.  You can purchase your day-use parking permit at the yellow kiosks locate in each parking lot.

Suggested Preparation

The Constitution test covers some history leading to its adoption, including the articles of confederation, compromises, etc. The structure of the government, make up of the branches of government, requirements of members, the powers and duties of each branch and that of the states in relation to the federal government. Amendments, Bill of Rights (and the Amendment number each right is specified in,) and important court cases in our history.
