MATH 007

Prealgebra


3.0 hours lecture per week.
Associate Degree Non-Applicable.
Prerequisite: MATH 003 or equivalent with a grade of C or better.

Presents the mathematical concepts and arithmetic skills necessary for success in elementary algebra and for further work in mathematics. The concepts are applied to numerous practical problems in order to demonstrate their applicability to real life situations. Not open to students with credit in MATH 123 or its equivalent or any course for which MATH 123 is the prerequisite.


Student Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
 1. Perform the fundamental operations on:
        ·    integers
        ·    fractions and mixed numbers
        ·    decimals
 2. Use the order of operations to:
        ·    evaluate formulas
        ·    simplify polynomials
        ·    simplify radical expressions
 3. Solve the following:
        ·    simple algebraic equations
        ·    percent problems
        ·    inequalities
 4. Analyze and solve applications
