Designing Group Work


You may want to print these directions before continuing:

Please respond thoughtfully to each of the scenarios below. Use the threaded discussion board and post your response under the appropriate topic thread. Be sure to check back to see how the discussion thread is progressing. I will expect to see at least one follow-up post from each student. Compose your answer in a word processor and then copy and paste your answers to the Message Board. This insures that you will have a copy of your homework in case of "technical glitches."

Scenario 1: Collaborative Technologies

You are assigning online students to small groups for electronic asynchronous discussions. You want to be able to easily archive these discussions and keep track of student participation. What technologies make this possible? Which one would you choose? Why?

Scenario 2: Group Work

What type of group work is more suited to your typical classes: collaborative or discussion? Why? Be sure to underscore the differences between collaborative and discussion objectives and give examples of how you might use one (or both) of these techniques.
