Board of Governors Fee Waiver

What is the Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW)?

The Board of Governors Fee Waiver was created to provide access for California residents to Community Colleges so that the cost of enrollment would not be a barrier. The BOGW is different from any other type of financial aid. BOGW eligibility is based on financial need and is not affected by academic progress. It assists with mandatory registration fees; it does not waive optional fees.

For eligible California residents, this program waives the $20 per unit fee. The BOGW is not a cash award and does not cover other educational expenses.

There are three methods to apply for a BOGW:

  1. Method A
bulletYou must be a recipient of TANF, CalWORKS, SSI/SSP or General Assistance, or
bulletBe a dependent of a recipient of TANF, CalWORKS, SSI/SSP or General Assistance, or
bulletHave certification of a dependent's fee waiver from the Department of Veteran's Affairs.
bulletNOTE: You must attach documentation that you receive any of the above programs dated within 30 days.

If you are eligible for a BOGW, what does the BOGW do for you?

bulletIt waives your unit enrollment fee for the entire academic year (Fall, Spring and Summer semesters). There is no limit to the number of units covered.
bullet Health Fees will no longer be waived.
bullet The BOGW (Method A only) will waive the  Student Center Fee --if applied for and accepted before registration. This fee cannot  be reimbursed if the BOGW is awarded after you register.
bulletIf you apply and are eligible for the BOGW after you have paid your Registration Fees, your Enrollment fee ($20 per unit) will be reimbursed. The BOGW can only reimburse you for the number of units in which you are enrolled at the time of the refund. If a BOGW is awarded after the end of a semester the BOGW cannot reimburse you for the semester that has ended.
