KATHERINE BLUM
Generalist Counselor
Katherine "Kat" has lived in Grover Beach for since 1995. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the
University of California, Davis. While at UCD, Kat was a student athlete as a member of both the swim and water
polo teams. After graduating, Kat coached swimming and water polo, as well as, substitute taught in the
Fairfield-Susiun Unified School District for two years. Once she got a taste of the educational system, she
wanted to contribute more. She moved with her husband to San Luis Obispo County where she earned her Masters
of Art and PPS credential from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Kat has worked as a substitute teacher, counselor and water polo coach for the Lucia Mar Unified School
District. In 2001 Kat and her husband Karl had their first child, Hannah at which time Katherine decided to
go back to working part time as a counselor at Cuesta. In 2003 they welcomed their second child, Ethan. Kat
has been a counselor at Cuesta since 1997 and most recently she transitioned to a generalist counselor.
