STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PLAN (SEP)
An SEP is a planning tool that you and your counselor create based on your future academic and career goals.
Although useful to all students, the following groups may be required to complete an SEP:
Athletes
Cal Works
DSPS
EOPS
Pre-nursing
Reentry
VATEA
Veterans
All students receiving financial aid must submit either an Orientation Verification or a Student Education Plan (SEP). To determine which document
will be needed, read the following:
IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME FRESHMAN and have a GED or its equivalent, you should complete the
Online Orientation and submit a
Goal Statement and Student Education Plan (SEP)
Contract. This will meet the Financial Aid requirement for a Student Education Plan (SEP) for your first semester as a First-Time Freshman
ONLY. Once you enroll in Cuesta, schedule a counseling appointment in order to complete a SEP.
IF YOU ARE A CONTINUING CUESTA STUDENT and you have attended no other colleges, you must submit a current SEP. Contact the Counseling
Office at the San Luis Obispo Campus, (805) 546-3138, or Student Services at the North County Campus, (805) 591-6241, to make an appointment.
IF YOU ARE A TRANSFER STUDENT or you have attended other schools since high school, you should complete the
Online Orientation and submit a
Goal Statement and Student Education Plan (SEP)
Contract. This will meet the Financial Aid requirement for a Student Education Plan (SEP) for your first semester as a First-Time Cuesta
College student ONLY. Once you enroll in Cuesta, schedule a counseling appointment in order to complete a SEP.
To obtain an SEP:
- Send your official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities you have previously attended to Cuesta
College Records Office.
- Verify with the Records Office that Cuesta College has received ALL your official transcript(s).
- Make an appointment with a Counselor. Contact the Counseling Office at the San Luis Obispo Campus, (805)

your SEP.
- Submit a copy of your SEP to your relevant program.
