COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
To make an appointment, stop by or call the Counseling Office or Transfer Center between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Monday through Thursday, or between 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday (CLOSED FRIDAYS IN JUNE AND JULY). Appointments are available Monday through
Thursday, 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and Friday 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m (CLOSED ON FRIDAYS IN JUNE AND JULY). Beginning the first working day of the week,
appointments are scheduled for the following week. The best time to schedule an appointment is mid-semester
(September/October for Fall; February/March for Spring).
Appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes and are appropriate for long term educational planning, clarifying
your academic records and eligibility for graduation or transfer, dealing with probation or dismissal questions,
and non-Cuesta transcript evaluation. A counselor can help you consider educational goals and requirements, review your previous course work, and find
classes that meet your goals. The sooner you see a counselor, the better. It is recommended that students meet
with a counselor at least once each semester to make sure they are on track to meeting their goals.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR COUNSELING APPOINTMENT
If you have transcripts from other colleges, make sure that the Admissions and Records Office has received them
before you make a counseling appointment. Come prepared with a list of specific questions. If you've met with a
counselor previously, bring a copy of your educational plan or general education form. Be on time - keep in mind
appointments are 1/2 hour in length! Before your appointment, consider your educational goals: do you plan to
transfer, obtain an Associate Degree, or vocational certificate from Cuesta College? If you have decided on a major
or a career direction, inform the counselor of that too
REMEMBER...ULTIMATELY, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL PLANS AND PROGRESS!
