If a class is closed, what can I do?

You tried to register online for a class BUT IT WAS CLOSED. First, use FIND CLASSES to find the same class at another day and time. Next, use FIND CLASSES to find a different class. Finally, go to the first day of the class in which you are interested in adding with an add/drop card and ask the instructor to sign your add card or give you an add code.

What is a prerequisite?

A prerequisite is a course (or equivalent skills or prior experience) that a student must pass (or possess) before enrolling in the more advanced course. Prerequisites can be recommended or required. You must have completed the prerequisite at Cuesta College or submit evidence of meeting the prerequisite to Admissions and Records, to register for the class. See the Admissions and Records Office Prerequisite Information.

What if I need to withdraw from a class?

It is always your responsibility to withdraw from a class if you are not going to attend or not able to complete the class. Students are encouraged to speak with the instructor and/or a counselor before they drop classes. To officially withdraw, you must drop the class online, or submit a drop card in person to the admissions and records office. An instructor's signature is not needed. Withdrawal deadlines can be found on your My Class Schedule/Receipt printout. Withdrawal deadlines for full term-length courses are published in the term calendar (online or in the printed Schedule of Classes). Students can drop short courses prior to 20% of the course without receiving a "W" grade and prior to 60% of the course with a "W" grade. "W" grades are not used in computing a grade point average, but withdrawing from classes can affect you in other ways (scholarship, financial aid, progress probation, etc). A counselor can help you decide if this is the best option for you.

Can I take my class pass/no pass?

Many classes can be taken pass/no pass. If this option is available it will be indicated at the end of the course description in the schedule of classes. The option must be chosen within the fourth week of instruction for 18-week courses or, if the course is less that 18 weeks in duration, within the first 20% of the course. Students may change back to a letter grade prior to the fourth week or the 20% deadline. After the fourth week or 20% deadline students may not reverse their pass/no pass grading decision.

Pass is defined as satisfactory completion of the minimum course requirements (a "C" grade or better). Rather than receiving a grade on your transcript, you will earn a "pass" if you met the minimum course requirements. "Pass" and "no pass" do not affect your grade point average. Do not choose this option for classes within your major. There is a limit of taking one course per term pass/no pass. Consult a counselor for more information about this option.

Do I need to have my transcripts sent from other colleges I have attended?

Prior to registration, new and transfer students must forward official copies of all high school and college transcripts to the Cuesta College Admissions and Records Office, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-8106. Students also should bring a copy of their transcripts to walkin registration in case there are questions about meeting course prerequisites. Students should plan to submit final transcripts once all course work is completed and grades are posted. Transcripts submitted to Cuesta prior to September 1998 may need to be resubmitted. Transcripts submitted to Cuesta College will not be released to students, other colleges or agencies.
