2010 Students: Course Site Registration Opens Friday before classes begin

Announcement: You are expected to
already have the computer skills for an online class such as saving in pdf,
manipulating files, and using different forms of interactive computer programs,
before enrolling in this class. The course password is nutr210spring. This
class does not use Cuesta Blackboard. It uses Pageout.
Nutrition 210 is offered as a 100% on-line course, which means that ALL
class work and exams will be completed outside of the traditional classroom.
There are NO mandatory meetings.
Nutrition 210 is taught by Cherie Moore, M.S., and full-time nutrition

This class is only for the motivated and online-savvy
student. You must be familiar with using software, such as always clicking in
space away from your answers so that you “lock-in” answers. Not clicking to
lock in can result in a large loss of points as your answers may change. There

Do This First:
· Save this page as a Favorite/Bookmark so that you can easily find it again.
· Print out this page so that you will have the detailed instructions of course material requirements and how to login the first time.

Read and follow this page carefully and as soon
as you enroll in the class (through myCuesta), then enter the password
listed above to register on the Pageout course site.

Be sure to register on Pageout (instructions
below) by January 19th,
remembering the first assignment is due
January 22nd. You will be responsible for reading all of the
information on this Welcome Letter and the course site. You do not need
to e-mail me before you begin as I will know you are enrolled in the class by
your registration on Pageout and submission of your first assignments. Add codes will be given, if space available,
until January 22nd.

This class is only for the motivated and
online-savvy student. No late assignments are accepted and the class moves very
quickly.
What to Buy:
Textbooks:

Contemporary
Nutrition-A Functional Approach,
McGraw-Hill, 2008 and the NutriCalc3 Diet Analysis Version 3 Online Code (however this code can be purchased online if you buy a
used textbook).
·
OPTIONAL: Practical Nutrition for a Fit Life,
Kendall-Hunt, Cherie Moore (used with Powerpoints in the Traditional Classroom;
may help simplify the material for online students, but not required).
Where to Buy:
The text will be sold in the
No other bookstore or vendor can necessarily be trusted to supply
the proper text; late work will not be accepted in the case of purchasing the
wrong materials!
If you buy a Used textbook or E-book, you will need to purchase
an access code for the Nutricalc3 diet analysis software separately.
The cost will be $25.00 plus tax and it can be purchased online at:

You will have access to the online software for 1 year.
Minimum Computer Requirements:
Your computer should
have the equivalent of a Pentium Processor (or PowerMac) at 200 Mhz or above.
You must have Adobe Acrobat to view your CD notes. Here

In order to play any Flashcards on the Course Site, you will need Shockwave Player. Here are the Playback Requirements:
Windows

If you do not have the player installed on your computer, then you will be
directed to the Macromedia
site automatically. There you will be instructed on the download
process.
Setting Browser Preferences:
The minimum browser requirements are at least
Netscape version 4.0, Internet Explorer 5.0 or Firefox.
Web TV and the AOL browsers are not compatible.
Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox are free downloads.
As far as browser preferences go, you will need java
enabled on your machines.
For Internet Explorer you should select Tools, Internet
Options, Advanced, and scroll down to Microsoft VM and check off Java
Console and JIT Compiler.
In Netscape click Edit, Preferences, then Word
Advanced, not the plus. There you should enable java.
Access To The Course:
To access the course go to http://cheriemoore.pageout.net and
choose Nutrition 210 Spring Session.
This site will be accessible after January
15th, 2010. Any information obtained before this date may be
outdated.
To create a student account:
1. Click on Student Registration
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Create New
Account
3. There you fill out the required information and click
Create.
PageOut will prompt you when you need to login. Then
enter a UserID (you create) and Password (you create). Course password is nutr210spring.
You do not need any technical support numbers. Inform me if there is a problem.

Special Notes:
·
Don’t forget to not only enroll in this
class through Cuesta, but register on the Pageout Course Site after January
15th and before January 19th. Students not registered in Pageout by January 22nd may be
dropped from the course.

Once you have registered in Pageout,
you will be automatically activated.
·
Make sure you enter a current e-mail
address into the Pageout program-that is how I will e-mail you for group
distribution e-mails! All e-mails will also appear as announcements on your
opening page on Pageout so be sure to click on these announcements to view
the whole message. Check your spam
if you do not receive a weekly e-mail from me in your inbox.
·
Be sure to read the syllabus on Pageout
before beginning the course and submitting the assignments.
·
The midterm and final exam are timed-you
have only 2 hours to take them. All other assessments may be viewed and then re-visited
within the open period. Do not click
on the midterm and final until you are ready to take them or your time will run
out. They are 100 points each so you will want to follow these instructions.
·
Lastly- this class is not a
“work-at-your-own-pace” class. You have deadlines each Friday. No exceptions
are made. Please realize by taking this class you are committing to submitting
these regular assignments on time.
