Welcome
Spring 2012 Students!
Connect
Course Site Registration is Open January 13th
Nutrition 210 Online is offered as a 100% on-line course, which means that ALL class work and exams will be completed outside of the traditional classroom. There are NO mandatory meetings.
Nutrition 210 Online is taught by Cherie Moore, M.S., and full-time nutrition instructor at Cuesta College.
Special
Announcements:
This class is only for the motivated and online-savvy student. You must be familiar with using online testing and submitting, such as always clicking in space away from your answers so that you “lock-in” answers. Not clicking to “lock-in” can cause a large loss of points as your answers may change. Remember no late assignments are accepted.
This
class does not use Cuesta Blackboard or Cuesta Moodle.
Do This First:
·
Save this page as
a Favorite/Bookmark so that you can easily find it again.
·
Print out this
page so that you will have the detailed instructions of course material
requirements and how to login.
·
Read and follow
this page carefully and as soon as you enroll in the class (through myCuesta),
then enroll in Connect.
·
Be sure to
register in Connect (instructions below) by January 17th
or you may be dropped from the class.
You will be responsible for reading all of the information on this Welcome
Letter and the course site. You do not need to e-mail me before you
begin, as I will know you are enrolled in the class by your registration
on Connect, and submission of your first
assignments. Add codes will be given, if
space available, until January 20th. Please do not e-mail the instructor after this date for an
add code.
·
You may be dropped for other students to be added if
you do not register by January 17th in Connect and check in to
Enterprise.
What to Buy:
Online Textbook:
·
Contemporary Nutrition-A Functional Approach, McGraw-Hill, 2011. (This
Online book includes a Connect code that is required for the course. I do not
recommend buying this at the bookstore since the bookstore has to mark up the
code the normal mark-up -remember the bookstore is non-profit though and the
money goes directly back to the students through ASCC. If you can only use a
voucher or have to pay with cash then use the bookstore. Otherwise order the
book as described further below.) If you purchase a hard copy at the bookstore
then you will still need to purchase a Connect code with an interactive eBook
online because the eBook contains the instructor’s notes.
·
NutriCalc3 Diet Analysis Version 3 Online Code (Purchased as
described in following section).
Where to Buy Diet Analysis Program:
NutriCalc3 Diet Analysis Version 3 Online Code
The cost will be $15.00 plus tax and it can be purchased online at: www.mhhe.com/ncp3.
· Click on I do not have a McGraw-Hill Education account. You can pay with American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.
· You will have access to the online software for 2 years.
· You may share the program with up to 3 students. I do not group students, however.
Computer Requirements:
· Your computer must have all of the capabilities of viewing YouTube, pdfs, PowerPoint’s, etc.
· You must use Mozilla Firefox or Safari for Connect and Enterprise. The program will not work well with Internet Explorer!
· In order to play any Flashcards on the Course Site, you will need Shockwave Player.
·
If you do not have the player installed on your
computer, then you will be directed to the Macromedia
site automatically. There you will be instructed on the download
process.

myCuesta
Announcements and email will sometimes come from mycuesta. Be sure to have mycuesta email forwarded to your email you read daily. If other material is on mycuesta, you will be directed there by information from Connect Enterprise.
How To Contact The Instructor:
·
E-mail cmoore@cuesta.edu
Reminders/Important
Information:
·
Don’t forget to not only enroll in this class through
Cuesta, but register on the Connect Course Site before January 17th. Students not registered in Connect by January
17th may be dropped from the course.
·
Make sure you enter a current e-mail
address into the Connect program-that is how I will e-mail you for group
distribution e-mails! Check your spam if you do not receive a regular (usually
weekly) e-mail from me in your inbox.
·
Be sure to read the syllabus carefully
before beginning the course and submitting the assignments.
·
The midterm and final exam are timed-you
have only 2 hours to take them. All other assessments may be viewed and then
re-visited within the open period (ignore the timer on the weekly assessments
and assignments). Do not click on the midterm and final until you are
ready to take them or your time will run out. They are 100 points each so you
will want to follow these instructions.
·
Lastly- this class is not a
“work-at-your-own-pace” class. You have deadlines each Friday. No exceptions
are made. Please realize by taking this class you are committing to submitting
these regular assignments on time.
·
There is a “48-hour rule” for assignment
and computer glitch help. Therefore, questions concerning Friday assignments
must be emailed to cmoore@cuesta.edu by Wednesdays at 11:59 pm. Any requests after this 48-hour
window may or may not be handled, depending on the situation, request, time gap
to the due date, and instructor workload. For example, if you wait until 9 pm
on the last possible day to take the midterm and the Connect Enterprise site is
down, or you get knocked off of the computer then it is too late for you to
contact me for an extension or a re-set so you will receive a zero for the
exam.
MyCuesta Email Forwarding:
Gmail lets you automatically forward incoming mail to another address. Here's how to forward messages automatically:
