Welcome to:

WELLNESS: PERSONALIZED FITNESS AND NUTRITION FOR LIFE (PETH 220, CRN 32351)

This credit class will offer students a chance to get personalized consultation and instruction in the areas of fitness, nutrition, and a wellness lifestyle.  This class is a combination of personal lab, online lecture, and group lab. Mandatory attendance is required at 4 full-class meetings and one personal consultation:

Orientation: January 19th , 4:30-6:00 pm, Room 1100

Pre Fitness Assessment: January 26th , 4:30-5:30 pm, Track

Personal Consultation: Sign-up at orientation for one hour between January 30th –February 3rd (from specific times given).

Mid-Semester Group: March 1st, 4:30-6:00 pm, Room 1100

Post Fitness Assessment: May 10th , 4:00-5:30 pm, Track

Special Announcements:

 

  • You are expected to already have the computer skills for an online class such as saving in pdf, manipulating files, submitting work by not using the enter key while working, and using different forms of interactive computer programs, before enrolling in this class. Computer assistance will not be available for this course. Please consider the half unit Intro to Online before taking this course.
  • This class does not use Cuesta Blackboard or Moodle. It uses Connect (Connect Enterprise) and myCuesta. 
  • You may be dropped for other students to be added if you do not register in Connect by Friday of the first week.

·        Read and follow this page carefully and as soon as you enroll in the class (through myCuesta).

·        Be sure to register on Connect and login to Enterprise (instructions below) by January 20th , remembering the first assignment is due online January 27th . You will be responsible for reading all of the information on this Welcome Letter and the course site. You do not need to e-mail the instructors before you begin, as we will know you are enrolled in the class by your registration in Connect and your attendance at the Orientation.  Add codes will be given, if space available, at the Orientation.

What to Buy:

·        Fit and Well, Fahey (instructors will go over purchasing options at orientation).

Computer Requirements:

  • Your computer should have a good solid internet connection that will not cut you out in the middle of a test!

·        Your computer must have all of the capabilities of viewing youtube, pdfs, PowerPoints, etc.

·        You must use Mozilla Firefox or Safari for Connect. The program will not work well with Internet Explorer!

·        In order to play any Flashcards on the Course Site, you will need Shockwave Player.

·        If you do not have the player installed on your computer, then you will be directed to the Macromedia site automatically.  There you will be instructed on the download process.

We will show this to you at Orientation. Under the “Need Help Registering” section, click on “How to Buy/Access Online” for a helpful tutorial. Be sure to register for Connect Plus to get full access to Connect and your eBook.

Once they are able to enter Enterprise, they don’t have to go the Connect site because they can access all of the Connect exercises in Enterprise. myCuesta (Some course files)

Announcements and email will sometimes come from mycuesta. Be sure to have mycuesta email forwarded to your email you read daily. If other material is on mycuesta, you will be directed there by information on Connect.

 

MyCuesta Email Forwarding:

Gmail lets you automatically forward incoming mail to another address. Here's how to forward messages automatically:

  1. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  2. From the first drop-down menu in the Forwarding section, select 'Add new email address.'
  3. Enter the email address to which you would like your messages forwarded.
  4. For your security, it will send verification to that email address.
  5. Open your forwarding email account, and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team.
  6. Click the verification link in that email.
  7. Back in your Gmail account, select the 'Forward a copy of incoming mail to...' option and select your forwarding address from the drop-down menu.
  8. Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep Gmail's copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to All Mail or Trash.
  9. Click Save Changes.

Special Notes:

 

 

·        Don’t forget to not only enroll in this class through Cuesta, but register on the Connect Course Site (preferably by the first day of class so that you can ask questions at Orientation).  Students not registered in Connect or who do not attend Orientation may be dropped from the course so others may be added. Orientation is mandatory.

 

·        You should regularly (usually weekly) receive emails from Connect Enterprise. Check your spam if you are not receiving e-mails from us.

 

·        Be sure to read the syllabus before beginning the course and submitting the assignments.
