Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month’s selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for November is freshman Harrier Kelly Barman.
Kelly Barman has participated in four races this season and posted three wins and a second place. She began the season by winning the Pepsi Invitational at Cuesta and then slipped to second in the Lou Vasquez Meet. This month in back-to-back races, she won the Western State Conference Preview Meet by 25 seconds and later claimed the WSC Championship with a time of 18:00.50. Her win at the WSC Championships vaulted the Cuesta women’s team from third to second place in the final standings, which marks only the 5th time Cuesta has finished that high since joining the circuit in 1983. The former New Mexico State High School Champion is one of the favorites to add an individual CCCAA title to her trophy collection.
The Cuesta Cross Country team finished second in the Western State Conference and will compete in the 2009 Southern California Regional on the first weekend of November.
