ACADEMIC POLICY

Academic Probation : Student achieved less than a 2.00 semester grade point average.

Academic Dismissal : Student is subject to academic dismissal from the college following the second consecutive semester of academic probation.

Progress Probation : Student attempted 12 units or more and earned grades of W, I and NC in over half of their cumulative unit total.

Progress Dismissal : Student is subject to progress dismissal from the college following the third consecutive semester of progress probation.

Yes. Your semester GPA was less than a 2.00, placing you on academic probation. You will be receiving a letter explaining your status.  You may enroll and attend classes for the upcoming semester.  If you are repeating a course in which you received a substandard grade, remember to complete a repeat petition and submit it to our Records Office prior to the end of the term.

Academic dismissal means you have earned a GPA of less then a 2.00 for two consecutive semesters. To continue at Cuesta, and remain in your classes for the upcoming semester, you must:

You will receive a letter from our office explaining your status.  The sign up form for the Dismissal Workshop will be included with that letter.   You may also print the Dismissal Workshop Form and mail it to the Counseling Office.

You will be eligible to reapply to Cuesta College after not enrolling "sitting out" one semester (summer session does not count).  Please contact our Admissions Office for an application.  You will be considered a returning student and need to follow those procedures for registration.

You must complete one semester with a GPA of 2.00 or higher to remove a probation or dismissal status, even though you signed a contract or sat out one semester.

You completed less than 50% of the total units you enrolled in to date at Cuesta College.  For example: You will be placed on progress probation if you enrolled in 12 units but you only received credit for 5 units.   Your student progress looks at your overall units completed, and requires that you complete at least 50% of the total units enrolled.

Two terms on progress probation are allowed.  You will be placed on Progress Dismissal after the third term that your overall units completed are less than 50% of the total units enrolled.
